WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Where could young adults go out to meet friends and make new ones in an environment that was both relaxed and yet exciting?
The answer was nowhere. Until Alan Stillman opened TGI Fridays.SM
Suddenly, there was a place that filled you with a Friday feeling no matter when you walked in. A place with great food, new and exciting drinks, and electric energy. A place where bartenders mixed the environment just as well as they mixed drinks, and “ring the bell” service heightened the experience for everyone.
The concept was wildly successful. Young people stood six deep around the bar. They spilled outside the restaurant, becoming known as the first “cocktail party on the streets.”
America’s most iconic bar and grill was born.
From that moment until today, Fridays has been known for taking fun seriously — and grasping the real, pure potential that a Friday is made of, all day, every day.
Today, our promise remains, “In Here, It’s Always Friday®.” We are an iconic brand known for delivering authentic, personal experiences. Guests expect us to deliver fresh, craveable food and handcrafted drinks in an engaging atmosphere, with nothing short of “ring the bell” service by a team of friendly professionals who make genuine connections with our Guests.
How do we ensure that experience each and every time? Well, what we do at Fridays is as important as how we do it. At Fridays, we are passionate about giving back to those in need, and we’re committed to running our business in a responsible way (which for us is the only way). For Our Team Members
We REALLY care about our Team Members. As we see it, we are all a family, the Fridays family. And without our family we can’t bring the Fridays experience to life every day for every Guest. Just like family, we want to ensure we can support our Team Members when they need it most. That’s why Fridays loves Have a Heart!
The Have a Heart Fund is our internal charity that ensures we can provide care to our Fridays family. Since its inception, Have a Heart has provided millions of dollars in assistance to Team Members who have faced a major issue such as unexpected medical bills, a personal tragedy or impact from a natural disaster.
In addition to year-round fundraisers and activities, thousands of Fridays Team Members contribute to the Have a Heart Fund, helping to make sure the resources are there to help their fellow Team Members in their time of need.
Through Have a Heart, Fridays is also making dreams come true. Our Have a Heart Life Changer Program provides grants to Team Members to help them pursue life-changing dreams. Curt Carlson, the Founder of Carlson said, “Whenever you dream, dream with your all.” Fridays is now committed to also making those dreams come true.
For Our Community
The collective energy of our people extends into our communities as well, as a force for positive change. We not only support the communities in which we live and work; we’re helping them to thrive by transforming our powerfully inclusive feeling of Fridays into action.
Making each moment more memorable. It’s why our Team Members, whether in our restaurants or in our Support Center, give their time in support of local organizations year-round, contributing thousands of service hours to help give back to their communities.
Fridays is also a national sponsor of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization. Through the partnership, Fridays has raised funds through our World Bartender Championships, providing millions of meals to those in need across the U.S.
In addition, Fridays partners with its suppliers to help support the needs of the communities that we serve. Through our partnership with Performance Food Group, we’ve donated several thousand pounds of food to food banks across the country.
For Our Environment
Fridays totally gets the importance of being a responsible steward of our natural resources. We’re as committed to protecting and preserving our environment as we are to serving our Guests the very best, most memorable meals. That’s why we’ve developed a sustainability program that focuses on reducing our energy and water usage, and identifying opportunities to increase recycling — both in our restaurants and at the Support Center.
We’re also dedicated to working with suppliers who share all of our values and will continue to support minority- and women-owned businesses by making them a significant part of our supply chain.
We believe it’s important to not only communicate what we’re doing — but to also ensure we’re being transparent about our Responsible Business progress.
In 2010, Carlson, our parent company, became a signatory to the UN Global Compact. The Compact is a series of 10 principles focused on what companies should do to be responsible and ethical corporate citizens.
